California's healthcare plan

author: anonymous

The 2007 article California's healthcare plan describes a plan established by governor Schwarzenegger and Assembly Speaker Fabian Nuñez, in the "Year of Healthcare", that requires every "californian" to purchase insurance. The plan also states that the insurance will be "available and affordable." This sounds like a great plan and there are many benefits, but some negative effects also. California would be able to get $4 billilon dollars in federal funds and insurers wouldn't be able to "deny or rescind coverage when an individual is sick." A downside is some may miss the cutoff of these benefits because of "subsidies." In order for this bill to pass it must be passes by senate and become a law. Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata, co-writer of the plan, believes that if the governor can give great reasons to backup the bill it will pass, but until then it will be put on hold. The problem with that is people who are sick cannot wait, this bill can help many people. This plan cannot harm the healthcare in California now, so in the "Year of Healthcare" there is nothing to lose.

Tone: informative, objective

question: What kind of effect would this healthcare plan have on the residents of California?

I think that any government intrusion into health care is simple recipe for disaster and mismanagement at its worst. Federal funds should not be used for State health care, for it is simply an unconstitutional and illegitimate diversion of taxpayer money. And for a State law, its rather pathetic if it cant even work optimally.

it sounds like a really good plan with few down sides. but because of that fact i'm a little cautious that there might be alterior motives in this bill that would later turn up and would overall benefit government officials more than California residents.

I agree with the idea proposed by Pro Tem Don Perata. The governor's plan to execute the bill should be looked over before the bill is passed. However, I do believe that this plan would benefit Californians that do not already receive health care.

Already having one of the worst health care systems in the world, it'd be extremely difficult for the U.S. to further worsen its health care system. Before you ask how the health care plan would affect California residents, you should first ask: Is this plan going to work? and How is EACH and EVERY Californian resident going to find the funds to purchase health insurance? With a population of almost 4 million how long is $4 billion goin to last? Is this goal obtainable? Or is it just one of the "governator's" ridiculously lofty endeavors?

well this health care plan sounds awfully great, but the government lately hastn´t been doing a good job in taking care of us and right now the bill is having problems being passed which brings up the question will it even function properly, or the way they hoped it would work? Then if does work how will they get the mone? and once they get the money will all that money really go towards that purpose, or will only some the money go towards that goal and the rest to something else? Which brings up this next question is there anything else behind this bill that prevents it pass to become a law?
