The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri

The novel The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri is about and Indian family from Calcutta who are trying to conform to life in America. The twenty five pages I have read so far are good. Ashima and Ashoke Ganguli are due to have a baby. As Ashima arrives at the hospital to deliver her baby her husband steps out and leaves Ashima their alone in a room with two other women who are about to deliver. As Ashima awaits the arrival of her baby she becomes frightened to know she will be raising a child in a country where "she is related to know one." As the baby arrives they await the name that will be given to the baby by their grandmother.

Quote: "...she is terrified to raise a child in a country where she is related to no one, where she knows so little where life seems so tentative and spare."

Question: Should Ashima be worried about being accepted in America?

Great question well i believe that majority of the people nowadays worry aobut being accepted in one way or another. Which is normal for a human to feel, because the way we live we feel that it's neccessary to be and feel loved by at least one person in our lives besides our own family.
In Ashima's case she really shouldn't be worried about being accepted in America because she'll find someone in the end who will understand her and be her friend. If not then the only thing that should Ashima now that she has had her baby is raising him up properly and doing the best that she can to raise him like any other indian family should.

Ashima should not be worried about being accepted in America. Even though her whole family is not in America with her she has her husband and new born baby. I think that she will survive in America because she seems strong.
